WONDER, a wonderful movie against bullying

Wonder is the story of August Pullman, known as Auggie, a child who, born with a rare disease, has had to undergo various surgeries for facial reconstruction and will have to face school for the first time. Between bullying and integration difficulties, the family will be fundamental.

“I THINK THE TWIST WAS WHEN OGGIE STARTED FEELING CONFIDENT ABOUT HIMSELF AND AT THE END WHEN HE WON AND WENT ON THE STAGE IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. THAT WAS UNDENIABLY A TOUCHING SCENE”.

Bullying

In the film we see a child named Oggie who is bullied by his peers because of his appearance. This made him feel different from other children, he tried to cover himself with a NASA astronaut helmet, the children's attitude towards Oggie was extremely wrong.

How to prevent bullying

Don't take the bully's provocations.

Don't blame yourself for a bully's aggression.

Ask teachers and parents for help.

File a report of bullying at school, when possible.

To prevent bullying, it is important to educate young people about what is acceptable and what is not, as well as how to recognize and manage the warning signs.

ARTICOLO INCONTRO AVVOCATO PENALISTA

La nostra classe, 1HL,  insieme alla 1E, ha avuto un incontro con due avvocati penalisti, che hanno spiegato i rischi del bullismo indicando le leggi che potremmo infrangere e raccontando successivamente di un evento di bullismo realmente accaduto.

Sono molti i danni causati dai bulli, molti non sanno che potrebbero essere perseguiti penalmente, anche se non esiste una specifica legge per il bullismo in Italia.

Sono, però, molte le norme di legge nel codice civile, penale e nella Costituzione che  puniscono i comportamenti dei bulli in particolare: Diffamazione (artt. 594 e 595 c.p.), Minaccia (art. 612 c.p.), Molestia o disturbo alla persona (art. 660 c.p.); ricordando sempre  che anche il cyberbullismo ha le sue conseguenze perseguibili penalmente dalla polizia postale.

Durante l’incontro, i due avvocati ci hanno chiesto di immedesimarci nei soggetti coinvolti in un episodio di bullismo, abbiamo scritto un testo per ogni protagonista (vittima, bullo, professori, genitori, compagni di classe) cercando di dare il nostro punto di vista.

Le due classi sono state divise in gruppi e ciascuno aveva il proprio soggetto, molti di noi hanno detto la loro opinione scrivendo dei piccoli temi esplicativi.

Quelli che avevano i genitori hanno parlato di ciò che potrebbero fare per aiutare il proprio figlio; coloro che avevano i professori hanno illustrato i provvedimenti che dovrebbero prendere nei confronti del bullo, ma anche cosa fare per aiutare la vittima.

I compagni di classe sono stati i più complessi da illustrare in quanto alcuni di loro  si schieravano contro la vittima e solo in pochi erano dalla sua parte.

Al termine dell’incontro i due avvocati hanno parlato della loro esperienza personale nel campo e delle decisioni che sono state prese per punire i colpevoli.

In effetti la storia realmente accaduta, narrata dagli avvocati, era terminata con la denuncia da parte dei genitori della vittima.

ARTICLE MEETING CRIMINAL LAWYERS

Our class, 1HL, together with 1E had a meeting with two criminal lawyers, who explained the risks of bullying, also indicating the laws we could break and  later telling of an event of bullying that actually happened.

There are many damages caused by bullies, many do not know that they could be criminally followed, there is no specific law for bullying in Italy, but there are many laws in the civil code , criminal law and in the Constitution that punish the behavior of bullies in particular:  Libel (art. 594 and 595 c.p.), Threat (art. 612 c.p.), Harassment or disorder to the person (art. 660 c.p.); always remembering that cyberbullying also has its consequences punishable by the postal police.

During the meeting the two lawyers asked us to identify ourselves in the subjects and write a text trying to give our point of view referring to the protagonists.

In particular the point of view of the victim and the bully, but also of the teachers, parents and classmates.

The two classes were divided into groups and each had its own subject, many of us have expressed our opinion by writing small explanatory themes.

Those who had parents talked about what they could do to help their child; those who had professors explained the steps they should take against the bully, but also what to do to help the victim.

The classmates were the most complex to illustrate as some of them stood against the victim and only a few were on his side.

At the end of the meeting the two lawyers spoke about their personal experience in the field and the decisions that were taken to punish the guilty.

The actual story ended with the report from the victim’s parents.

Ci sono stati dei casi all’ interno della scuola?

Se si come sono stati gestiti?

Il caso di bullismo più grave a cui lei ha assistito?

Cosa ne pensa dei bulli?

Oggi abbiamo deciso di intervistare per il nostro progetto educazione civica delle classi prime, il prof Coccapani segretario del professor Carretti, referente per i casi di bullismo e di cyberbullismo dell'istituto Luosi-Pico.

Ci sono stati dei casi all’ interno della scuola?

Si, anche se non posso far da testimone siccome sono entrato nella commissione anti bullismo quest'anno.

La commissione è formata da me e il prof. Carretti che è il referente d'istituto.

Quest’anno sono stati gestiti dalla commissione diversi casi.

Se si come sono stati gestiti?

 Per risolvere questi casi sono state convocate le vittime e sono stati definiti i contorni degli avvenimenti. Sono stati convocati anche i ragazzi che hanno assistito così da capire l’accaduto; infine sono stati convocati i bulli.

Con il permesso della dirigente sono stati chiamati i genitori dei ragazzi coinvolti. 

E’ stato instaurato un rapporto tra l'organo scolastico e i genitori per chiarire meglio la situazione.

I genitori dei bulli sono stati informati delle azioni commesse dai figli nei confronti dei coetanei.

E, sotto l’approvazione della dirigente, sono stati presi dei provvedimenti disciplinari destinati ai bulli, ma anche degli aiuti per le vittime come un incontro con degli psicologi professionisti.

Il primo intervento avviene nelle classi per informare gli alunni delle conseguenze legali.

Il caso di bullismo più grave a cui lei ha assistito?

Tutti i casi sono gravi e mettono alle vittime uno stato di angoscia e ansia.

Sono tutti paragonabili l’uno all’altro, le dinamiche sono simili, i motivi sono sempre quelli e le situazioni delle vittime si assomigliano.

Cosa ne pensa dei bulli?

I bulli sono persone in grave difficoltà che non hanno idea dei comportamenti corretti per vivere all'interno di una  società .

Il nostro ruolo è importante siccome possiamo aiutarli ad adattarsi all’interno di un plesso scolastico e in generale all’interno di una comunità.

Aujourd’hui, nous avons décidé d’interviewer pour notre projet d’éducation civique des classes premières, le professeur Coccapani secrétaire du professeur Carretti, référent pour les cas d’intimidation et de cyberintimidation de l’institut Luosi-Pico.

Y a-t-il eu des affaires à l’école ?

Oui, même si je ne peux pas être témoin puisque j’ai rejoint le comité anti-harcèlement cette année.

La commission est formée par moi et M. Carretti qui est le référent de l’école.

Cette année, plusieurs affaires ont été traitées par la commission.

Si vous avez comment ils ont été gérés?

 Pour résoudre ces cas, les victimes ont été convoquées et les contours des événements ont été définis. Les garçons qui ont assisté ont également été convoqués afin de comprendre ce qui s’est passé; enfin, les intimidateurs ont été convoqués.

Avec la permission de la directrice, les parents des enfants impliqués ont été appelés.

Un rapport a été établi entre l’institution scolaire et les parents pour mieux clarifier la situation.

Les parents des intimidateurs ont été informés des actions de leurs enfants envers leurs pairs.

Et, sous l’approbation de la Dirigeante, des mesures disciplinaires destinées aux intimidateurs ont été prises, mais aussi des aides pour les victimes comme une rencontre avec des psychologues professionnels.

Le plus grave cas d’intimidation que vous ayez vu ?

Tous les cas sont graves et mettent les victimes dans un état d’angoisse et d’anxiété.

Ils sont tous comparables les uns aux autres, les dynamiques sont similaires, les raisons sont toujours celles et les situations des victimes se ressemblent.

Que pensez-vous des brutes ?

Les intimidateurs sont des personnes en grande difficulté qui n’ont aucune idée des comportements corrects pour vivre au sein d’une société.

Notre rôle est important car nous pouvons les aider à s’adapter à un complexe scolaire.

Today we decided to interview for our civic education project of the upper first, prof Coccapani secretary of Professor Carretti, contact person for cases of bullying and cyberbullying of the Luosi-Pico institute.

Have there been any cases inside the school?

Yes, although I can’t be a witness because I joined the anti-bullying commission this year.

The commission is formed by me and Prof. Carretti who is the contact person of the institute.

Several cases were handled by the commission this year.

How did the commission manage the cases?

 To resolve these cases, the victims were summoned and the outlines of the events were defined. The people who attended were also summoned to understand what happened;  the bullies were summoned too.

With the permission of the principal, the parents of the children involved were called.

A relationship has been established between the school body and parents to clarify the situation.

The parents of the bullies were informed of the actions committed by their children against peers.

And, with the approval of the principal, disciplinary measures were taken for bullies, but also help for victims such as a meeting with professional psychologists.

The first intervention takes place in the classes to inform the students of the legal consequences of their actions

The most serious bullying case you’ve seen?

All cases are severe and put the victims in a state of anguish and anxiety.

They are all comparable to each other, the dynamics are similar, the reasons are always those and the situations of the victims are alike.

What do you think of bullies?

Bullies are people with serious difficulties, who have no idea of the correct behavior to live within a society.

Our role is important as we can help them adapt within a school complex and in a community.
